Overview

ByteChef is an open‑source workflow automation and AI agent platform. It lets teams run automation on their own infrastructure or in ByteChef Cloud while keeping full control of data and integrations. The engine, connectors and configuration are licensed under Apache 2.0, so you can host it yourself or embed it in a SaaS product.
With ByteChef you build workflows visually on a free‑form canvas or write them as code. A drag‑and‑drop builder lets you place triggers, actions and multi‑step AI agents onto the grid, then connect them with conditions, branching and logic. The platform provides a live preview of execution; you can see where data enters, which steps transform it and what outputs are produced before pushing a workflow to production. If you do not want to start from scratch, ByteChef ships with a library of pre‑built templates and AI automation examples, which you can modify to match your own tools or business goals. Once a workflow is ready it runs on a schedule or in response to an event, fetching data from any connected SaaS, database or internal system, processing it with optional custom code or an AI model, and then sending the result to email, Slack, a database, or another service.
ByteChef supports full‑stack integration. Every connector is open source and can be extended. You can self‑host with Docker or Docker Compose, PostgreSQL for persistence, or Helm on Kubernetes. For SaaS‑centric deployments, a tenant‑isolation mode allows multiple customers to run separate workflows on the same cluster, with no credential storage or per‑vendor OAuth code on your side. Enterprise customers can use the Enterprise Edition for additional features such as single‑sign‑on, audit events and an embedded edition that lets users manage their own workflows inside your product.
