Overview

CozyClay is a free, open‑source 3D pre‑visualisation tool that runs entirely in a web browser. It lets you block out scenes, pose characters, choreograph camera moves, and plan cuts before handing the same shots to an AI video model.
The core workflow follows the stages “Stage, Move, Shoot, Export.” First, you build a set from primitives such as cubes, cylinders, rails, and lamps, and place rigged characters or capsule stand‑ins. Next, you describe the action; the compiler bakes a full frame cache, and built‑in QA checks catch collisions, foot slide and reach errors. Then you schedule shots on a timeline, set up dolly rails, cranes, and camera angles using a look‑through‑the‑lens view. Finally, every export bundles the first and last frame, a greybox reference clip, camera data, a depth and normal pass, a contact sheet, an OTIO cut list, and a storyboard with captions into a single pack. The video model receives the keyframe pack and the prompt that describes the desired framing, allowing it to follow the blocking rather than guessing.
CozyClay is tailored for artists and filmmakers who need to run quick iteration cycles. Each edit is a single undo step, so a whole street scene can be built from cubes, then refined without loss of control. The interface supports Typical 3D navigation: right‑click drag to look, WASD or RMB + Q/E to walk, middle‑drag to pan, Alt‑drag to orbit, and Ctrl/Cmd+Z for undo/redo. The output supports formats you can import into editing software: an MP4 of the shot, a depth pass, and an OTIO cut list.

Pros and cons
Pros
- No external software needed; runs in any Chromium browser
- Clean separation of blocking and video generation reduces costly re‑renders
- Export packages are ready for AI video models in one click
- Agent‑controlled workflow supports scripting and automation
Cons
- Requires Node.js 22.19+ and a Chromium browser for local use
- Performance depends on the client's GPU and CPU; not optimized for very large scenes
- No published pricing or commercial support listed
- Limited built‑in tools for advanced animation or shading beyond basic primitives and rigged characters
