Overview

Dot Symbol screenshot

Dot Symbol (dot-symbol.com) is a free reference site for copying and understanding dot characters. It lists 76 Unicode dot symbols, including the bullet (•), middle dot (·), black and white circles, math operators, ellipses and coloured dot emoji, and lets you copy any of them with one click. Alongside the copy tool, it explains what each character is and how to type it on different systems.

Copying dots

The home page shows the most-copied dots first, then the full set. Each card has the official Unicode name and a plain nickname, such as "Dot Operator · math dot" or "White Bullet · small dot". Symbols are grouped by practical category: middle and center dots, bullets, small, big, circles, math, multi-dot characters such as ⋮ and ∴, and emoji. The site only confirms "Copied" once the browser's clipboard write actually succeeds, and gives a manual fallback otherwise. Recently copied dots (up to ten), pinned dots and builder text are stored only in your browser's local storage, not on a server.

Dot separator builder

A small builder lets you add dots from any card and join them with no space, a single space or a new line, then copy the result. It keeps emoji and multi-code-point sequences intact, which is useful for separators in bios, labels and navigation.

Technical detail

For developers and writers, guides give HTML entities (such as • or •), CSS escapes (content: "\2022"), JavaScript escapes ("\u2022") and keyboard methods for Windows, macOS, mobile and Word, including Alt codes and the Alt+X method. A "Dot Compare" page explains look-alikes: a middle dot, dot operator and bullet operator may appear identical but are different code points, so the site advises checking the official name before using one in formulas, identifiers or technical documents. It also notes that coloured circle emoji are separate characters from geometric circles and may render in colour.

Guides

The blog covers related questions, such as bullet point formatting with punctuation and capitalisation advice, typing ö in Word and the large black circle ⬤. The site also has research pages, an editorial policy and contact details.

Who it suits

Writers formatting plain-text lists, social media users building separators for bios, designers looking for the right circle, and developers who need the correct code point and escape sequence for a dot character.

Pros: clear Unicode names for every symbol; HTML, CSS and JavaScript codes included; copy history stays in your browser.
Cons: limited to dot-style characters; how a symbol looks still depends on the font; no API or bulk export.
