Gentle‑AI turns the AI coding agents you already use, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, Codex, Pi, Gemini CLI, VS Code Copilot, Windsurf and more, into disciplined engineers that remember and prove their work. It releases an open‑source binary that installs with a single command on every machine, and it never replaces the agent you pay for; it adds memory, a structured workflow, curated skills and an optional pre‑commit review guard.

When you invoke Gentle‑AI, you start a new session that begins from a clean slate. The Engram component stores the agent's decisions, conventions and bug fixes in a local SQLite database and shares them across machines via Git Sync or an optional Engram Cloud dashboard. In practice, the agent reads your intent written in plain language, “add retries to the upload handler” or “plan the billing rewrite”, then explores the code repository. It asks a focused question only if a real decision point is encountered, and it stops writing code until you confirm the decision. The resulting change is split into small, human‑readable commits with associated tests and documentation, so the modifications can be reviewed in a pull request.

The stack is organized into four layers. The base coordinates the agent's actions and collects honest progress reports. The workflow layer applies a seven‑step process: authorize, investigate, deliberate, code, test, review, and merge. The delegation layer breaks work into a read‑only explorer, a writer that never commits, and a verifier that passes only for a named reason; the system decides which agent does what based on the task's risk. The outside view layer freezes the exact changes, rates the scope of the touch, and presents a native review that is on by default and under your control. This guard ensures that nothing descends from the agent to production without a human touch‑point.

Gentle‑AI's five open‑source tools make the stack fit into existing workflows. Engram provides persistent memory and full‑text search. Git Sync keeps the memory in sync across machines; Engram Cloud adds project‑scoped replication if required. Gentle‑shell turns a Pi session into a familiar workspace that contains all the guardrails. Gga implements a pre‑commit review using the same provider you already rely on, such as Claude or Gemini.
