Overview

Photoshop MCP lets you control Adobe Photoshop through natural‑language prompts. The system links Claude, Cursor, or any MCP‑compatible language model to Photoshop, so you can ask for edits such as background removal, retouching, color grading, or batch export without manually selecting tools. It runs on macOS and Windows and supports Photoshop versions from 2012 through 2025.

The core of the product is an MCP server that you add to an editor or assistant like Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, or a standalone web UI. Once the server is running, your chosen language model receives a list of 116 Photoshop tools and selects the appropriate one for each request. You type a command, e.g., “remove the background from this portrait and export a 1080 × 1350 Instagram version”, and the model generates the sequence of Photoshop actions. All changes are applied in a single undo step, which means you can revert the entire operation if needed.

You can start the service in two ways. The first option embeds the MCP client in an existing editor; the second launches a local web UI that does not require an editor at all. Installation is handled by a single npm command (`npx -p @alisaitteke/photoshop-mcp photoshop-mcp-ui`) and takes about a minute. The initial prompt takes roughly ten seconds to process, after which the model can continue handling subsequent steps automatically. The web UI also lets you bring an API key for Claude, GPT, Gemini, or OpenRouter, or reuse an existing Claude Code account, giving flexibility in the language model you prefer.

If you need to run a batch of similar edits, the “Action Plan” mode creates one planning call and then executes each step in sequence, reducing the number of round‑trips to the model. The tool is free and open source under the MIT license, and the source code is hosted on GitHub. Documentation includes a full setup guide covering installation in various editors, the standalone web UI, and configuration of API keys.
