Overview

Contador de Palabras (contadordepalabras.app) is a free Spanish-language word and character counter. You type or paste text into the editor and it shows words, characters, sentences, readability, keyword repetition and sentence rhythm as you write. The site states that analysis runs in your browser and that an anonymous draft is saved only on your device.
What it counts
The two main totals, words and characters, are always visible because they are the most common limits. A Details panel adds 19 measures, including characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, lines, estimated pages and syllables, unique words, average word length, words per sentence, longest and shortest sentence, and reading, speaking and handwriting time. Readability uses the Fernández-Huerta index, a formula adapted for Spanish. The site gives a worked example: "¡Hola, mundo! ¿Cómo estás?" counts as 4 words, 26 characters with spaces and 23 without, because punctuation adds characters but not words. That makes it easy to see whether another tool uses different rules.
Editing tools
- Keyword density for one, two and three-word phrases, to spot repetition.
- Sentence rhythm, grouping sentences by length from 1 word to 40+ words.
- Writing goals by words or characters, saved with the draft.
- Text clean-up: uppercase, lowercase, title and sentence case, remove double spaces or line breaks, and undo.
- Copy, download as TXT or print, plus optional saving to an account.
- Adjustable reading and speaking speed in words per minute.
Guides
The site has Spanish guides for common counting situations: words and pages in Word, counting in Google Docs, counting words in a PDF or a photo, essay length, Instagram character limits, meta description length and reading speed. The advice is practical: if a platform asks for 2,000 characters with spaces, use that figure; if a publisher asks for 800 words, treat the page estimate only as a guide.
Pricing
The counter is free to use with no sign-up needed for the main tool.
